Imcivree is a prescription injection developed to treat obesity caused by rare genetic disorders that affect the melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) pathway, which controls hunger and energy balance. By activating this pathway, Imcivree helps reduce excessive hunger (hyperphagia) and promote healthy weight loss in patients with specific genetic mutations confirmed through genetic testing.
Uses of Imcivree (Setmelanotide)
Imcivree is good for:
Chronic weight management in adults and children (6 years and older) with genetic obesity syndromes such as POMC, PCSK1, or LEPR deficiency
Reducing persistent hunger as a result of impaired MC4R signaling
Supporting long-term metabolic balance and increase quality of life
It is not good for general obesity unrelated to these genetic causes.
Dosage Information
The typical starting dose of Imcivree is 1 mg once daily, gradually increased to a maintenance dose of up to 3 mg daily, as tolerated and directed by a healthcare provider. The 10 mg/mL injection is good in administering subcutaneously in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Dose adjustments depend on the patient’s response and medical condition.
